From the animal the name would have passed to the montain. -φρυξ might have retained then an old zero grade, s. on φάρυγξ (improbable). - The PN Κολοιφων (IG 5 : 2, 425, 3) explaine B. similarly as "who has the appearnce of a κολοιός".
